The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacint Iormem Alia has announced government plans to construct new hostel blocks, a dining hall, and a classroom block at the Benue State Rehabilitation School, Apir, Makurdi LGA.
Governor Alia made the announcement during a visit to the school on Monday, June 24, 2024, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the facilities.
“The students of this school deserve a suitable learning environment and proper accommodation,” said Governor Alia. “That is why we are making these investments to transform the school and improve the welfare of the students.”
The new infrastructure projects will include the construction of two hostel blocks, a dining hall, and a classroom block. Additionally, the governor pledged to drill two boreholes and install solar lighting on the school grounds to provide water and electricity.

Alexander Aondoaver Mbakindev, the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Rehabilitation Board, had earlier presented the school’s plans to the governor, highlighting the lack of adequate accommodations for the students.
The store officer of the school, Orseer Iortyer, also accompanied the governor on a tour of the dilapidated structures, including the current hostels and dining facilities, where some students are forced to sleep on the floor.
“This school is a vital resource for the rehabilitation and education of our students, and we are committed to ensuring they have the best possible environment to thrive,” said Governor Alia. “These upgrades will make a significant difference in the lives of the students and the overall operation of the school.”
The construction of the new facilities is expected to commence in the coming months, with the aim of providing a more suitable and comfortable learning experience for the students at the Benue State Rehabilitation School Apir.
