**Edo Poll: As It Stands After 16 LGAs Results**
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced results from 16 local government areas (LGAs) in the Edo State governorship election, after which the collation centre went on a recess. The Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared the recess at 2:19 p.m. to allow for the arrival of results from the remaining two LGAs.
Prof. Kuta stated that the collation centre will reconvene at 5 p.m. to announce the final results from the outstanding LGAs and possibly declare the winner of the election held on Saturday.

So far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, leads with 244,549 votes, followed closely by Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has secured 195,954 votes. Out of the 16 LGAs announced, the APC leads in 10, while the PDP holds the lead in 6.

Meanwhile, as the collation continued, PDP supporters took to the streets of Benin City to protest the results. Waving PDP flags and carrying branches of leaves, the protesters marched towards the INEC headquarters, voicing their dissatisfaction.
A total of 17 political parties participated in the election, seeking to take over leadership from Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose term ends in November.
