The Anambra State Government has approved a total of N54.9 billion for key infrastructure projects, including road construction, streetlights, and educational development across the state. The funds were approved during the 36th State Executive Council meeting, a significant move in Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing infrastructure revolution.
A major portion of the budget, N2.1 billion, was earmarked for the construction of Trans-Nkisi Boulevard 1 in GRA Onitsha, with the contract awarded to Paul-B Nigeria Limited. Additionally, the state government has invited fresh tenders for a streetlight project in Awka and awarded contracts for the development of 22 smart schools across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.
As part of its road network expansion, N7.5 billion has been approved for the construction of the flood-prone Nanka-Aguluzigbo-Umuona road, which spans 8.9 kilometers. The contract was awarded to IDC Construction Company with a 12-month completion timeline. Similarly, a N10.95 billion contract was awarded to Cossel Construction Ltd for the Mbaukwu-Awgbu-Amaetiti-Okpaeze road, which will include a bridge and is expected to be completed in 18 months.
Other notable projects include the Azigbo-Awka Etiti-Amichi-Onuselogu road, costing N2.6 billion and set for completion in 8 months, and the Igboukwu-Amichi-Ekwulummili road, awarded at N2.355 billion, to be completed in 6 months.
Furthermore, several key roads in Omagba and Onitsha, including the New Market Road, have also been approved for reconstruction, with contracts awarded to various companies. The state is also focusing on education, with N13.5 billion allocated for the construction of 22 smart schools, marking a major step toward preparing future generations for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The projects are aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving infrastructure, and fostering a prosperous future for Anambra State.
