Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has emphasized the importance of visionary leadership for Nigeria’s progress as a nation. Speaking in an interview with Elevate Africa, released on YouTube on Thursday, the globally recognized artist stressed the critical need for competent governance to drive development forward.
“We can’t move forward without the best leaders now. That’s the most important thing,” Davido said, highlighting the role of effective leadership in fostering growth.
The singer acknowledged the resilience and resourcefulness of Nigerians, praising their ability to thrive in difficult circumstances. However, he lamented that the lack of strong leadership has been a major barrier to the nation’s advancement.
When asked about Africa’s current position and the role of music in its future, Davido reflected on the strength and determination of Nigerians. “I tell people, if you can survive in Lagos, or in Nigeria in general, you can survive anywhere. We’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he shared.
Davido also pointed to the global presence of Nigerians as a sign of their resilience and influence. “Wherever you go in the world, everyone has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or from anywhere else, Nigerians are everywhere. I fly around the world, and there are Nigerian restaurants and communities everywhere. It shows that we’re a force,” he remarked.
While celebrating these achievements, Davido reiterated that Nigeria’s potential to lead on a global scale depends on the emergence of capable leaders. “The only thing missing is the right leaders to guide us. Once we get that right, I believe nothing will stop us,” he concluded.
