Parents advised to stop imposing course of study on children

Parents have been advised to refrain from imposing the choice of course of study on their children but rather guide them on areas that could make them self-employed.

Speaking in various interviews with our correspondent, the respondents, noted that white collar jobs were becoming grossly inadequate and there was the need for parents and guardians to guide children on areas that could provide self-reliance opportunities.

An Electrical Electronics Engineer, Mbaayu Batur urged students to be wise in choosing their careers bearing in mind that the economic situation in the country which he noted, offers lean employment opportunities.

He emphasised the advantages of studying courses that could provide self-employment courses opportunities, highlighting how people with hand work and practical skills are excelling while others were longing for white collar jobs.

On his part, a legal practitioner, Barrister Emmanuel Velegh faulted the idea of imposing careers on children, saying some children’s progress has been tied down as a result of wrong choices of career by the parents.

He advised prospective tertiary institutions students not to allow parents to have total control over their educational pursuit in terms of career but only be guided on what may be possible choices to consider.
