A seasoned journalist and sports enthusiast, Terver Akase, has described football as a force that unites people across ethnic, religious, cultural and political lines.
Akase stated this Wednesday when retired footballers in Benue State under the aegis of Benue Football Foundation paid him a courtesy call.
He described football and sports bring people from different backgrounds together for development.
The former Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor commended the foundation of veteran footballers for keeping alive the flame of the game even in retirement.
Mr. Akase assured the Foundation that he would support their plan to organise the Veterans’ Super Cup in Makurdi early next year to inspire other sports enthusiasts to do the same.
He lauded the initiative and urged the Foundation to sustain it while also keeping themselves fit and promoting unity in the State.
Earlier, the President of the Foundation, Coach Fidelis Antyumbe, said the event is being organised to bring together retired footballers in the state as part of efforts to promote unity and the sport in general, hinting that the tournament would hold in January.
He commended Akase for promoting football in the state and encouraged him to sustain the good work that he has been doing.
In his remarks, one of the Coordinators of the Foundation, and former Lobi Stars Captain, Terlumun Imadu, thanked Akase for supporting grassroots sports as well as veteran footballers in the state and urged others to emulate him in order to develop talents.
Other members of the Foundation present during the courtesy call included the Secretary, Coach Abel Ameh, as well as Joshua Tyobee, Dominic Mbashinya and Paul Zang who is a long time ally of Mr Akase.
