The Nigerian Army Council has approved the promotion of 108 senior officers to the ranks of Major-General and Brigadier-General.
In a statement on Friday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, announced that 35 Brigadier-Generals were elevated to Major-Generals, while 73 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier-Generals.
Among the newly promoted Major-Generals are officers occupying key command and staff positions, including Brig-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2, North West Operation Fasan Yamma; and Brig-Gen. U.G. Ogeleka, Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
Other officers elevated to the rank of Major-General include Brig-Gen. B.P. Koughna, Deputy Chief of Military Affairs, Department of Civil-Military Affairs, Army Headquarters; Brig-Gen. I. Otu from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre; Brig-Gen. A.O. Adegbite from the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport; and Brig-Gen. S.A. Jimoh, Deputy Director of the Tender Board, Department of Procurement.
Notable promotions to the rank of Brigadier-General include Col. S.M. Iliya, Commander of the 43 Engineers Brigade; Col. O. Igwe, Commander of the 78 Supply and Transport; and Col. N.S. Onuchukwu, Chief Medical Director of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to justify their elevation through dedication and exemplary leadership. He also encouraged them to develop innovative strategies to address Nigeria’s contemporary security challenges effectively.
“Oluyede also reminded them of their oath of allegiance to defend the nation and their duty to maintain unalloyed loyalty to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement added.
