CHAN 2024: Nigeria to face Senegal , Congo, Sudan in tricky Group D

The Super Eagles face a challenging path in their quest for a first African Nations Championship (CHAN) title this August, having been drawn into a tough Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, seasoned contenders Congo, and Sudan.

The final draw for the 8th edition of the competition, which features national teams made up solely of home-based players, took place yesterday in a grand ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

Originally set to be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda next month, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday that the tournament would be postponed until August due to “uncompleted facilities.”

The draw was conducted by CAF’s Director of Competitions, Nigeria’s Samson Adamu, with assistance from East African football legends, including Kenya’s McDonald Mariga, Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa, and Uganda’s Hassan Wasswa.

Nigeria, the 2018 silver medalists, will face Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo in Group D.

The joint-hosts of the tournament, Kenya, head Group A, which also features Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. Kenya will face Morocco in the opening match of the tournament.

Tanzania, another joint-host, leads Group B, where they will compete against Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, who recently defeated Cameroon. All five teams will battle for two knockout round spots.

Uganda, the third joint-host, will play against Niger, Guinea, and two yet-to-be-determined wild card teams in Group C.

The full CHAN 2024 groupings are as follows:

**Group A**: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
**Group B**: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
**Group C**: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Q2, Q1
