ADC will collapse in three months – Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a weak and unstable political platform fueled by conflicting presidential ambitions.

Speaking during a national television interview on Monday, Sheriff confidently predicted that the party would “die down in three months.”

He also dismissed speculation linking him to the ADC, stating that the party lacks the political influence, organizational structure, and durability needed to survive in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“You said people are mentioning my name, that I was going to the ADC. Wrong. Which ADC? Do they have a political party?” he asked.

“Give them three months. The party will die down because all of them are ‘presidential materials’. And it is only one person that is going to be a presidential candidate among them.”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others are reportedly considering the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has dismissed the possibility of the ADC achieving anything close to what the APC accomplished a decade ago.

According to Sheriff, the APC was born out of a strategic merger involving parties with sitting governors and well-established national structures—an advantage he says the ADC completely lacks.

“When we were coming to form the APC, there were almost 15 state governments involved. President Bola Tinubu came with four states. All Nigeria Peoples Party(ANPP) came with about five or six. Breakaway PDP came with four. Today, we have 73 senators, a clear majority in the House of Reps, and more than  20 states,” he said.

He described the current push within ADC as a gathering of individual presidential hopefuls with no united base or viable electoral pathway.

“They all want to be president at all costs. They have a right to aspire, but as far as this politics is concerned, they don’t exist. ADC does not exist.”
