The Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Dr Babatunde Diya, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the economic prosperity of the council through job creation and investment facilitation.
Diya stated this in a statement from his media office in Odogbolu, on Friday, while performing the groundbreaking of a N3.5bn truck park along the Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway, a project initiated by the local government.
He said the strategic investment was designed to boost internally generated revenue and drive sustainable development within the area.
According to him, the facility is envisioned as a safe and organised parking space for heavy-duty vehicles aimed at reducing accidents on expressways, improving environmental safety and creating employment opportunities, particularly for youths.
Diya said, “This N3.5bn Odogbolu Truck Stop Project represents a monumental stride toward modernising local infrastructure, expanding the economy and boosting job creation.
“This ultramodern facility will feature parking lots, fuel stations, maintenance bays, hotels, restaurants, drivers’ lodges and recreational spaces, and is expected to create over 300 direct and indirect jobs.
“This project will empower our youths, attract investors and make Odogbolu a logistics and investment hub. Beyond that, it will complement the emerging Gateway International Airport corridor, transforming our axis into a commercial and transport powerhouse in the Southwest.”
The chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing purposeful leadership that enables good governance at the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Deputy CEO of TGroup and 1st TruckStops, Mr Oyeyemi Oke, emphasised the importance of the infrastructure to trade and logistics.
“Trade cannot thrive without logistics, and logistics cannot thrive without infrastructure. The Odogbolu Truck Stop is designed to become the backbone of trade along the 49km Sagamu–Benin Expressway,” Oke said.
The Managing Director of TruckBus and Odogbolu TruckStops, Oluwaseun Mamoye, described the project as a transformative investment for the state.
Mamoye said, “The Odogbolu Truck Stop is more than infrastructure; it represents a future where highways become arteries of growth rather than bottlenecks of inefficiency.
“Every truck that parks, every driver that rests and every business that operates here contributes to a cycle of productivity and recurring revenue. With Nigeria’s road haulage industry valued in billions, the opportunity before us is immense.”
In his remarks, Olufemi Ogunbanwo, who represents Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, commended the council for its foresight, describing the initiative as a legacy that would empower future generations.
Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Technology Innovation, Hon. Dennis Ogunnaike, also praised Diya for following Governor Abiodun’s vision, saying the project would significantly boost the council’s economic prosperity.
