Civil Engineers in Makurdi have called on construction companies to use standard materials and stick to specifications when constructing drainages to ensure the longevity of the projects.
One of the Engineers, Theophilus Terlumun, in an interview with our correspondent described strong drainages as a product of standard materials in the right proportion and urged contractors handling such projects to always strive for quality work.
On his part, a staff of the National Bio Development Agency, Engineer Nguuma Shimakaa, who noted that collapsed drainage systems are mostly the result of poor building methods which make them unable to withstand pressure, further explained that inferior materials are also responsible for their failure.
Engineer Shimakaa, maintained that some drainages collapse as a result of accidents while others are overthrown by the growth of trees through them.
