The federal government has approved N30 billion to support the 30 universities of agriculture across the country in launching mechanized farming. The funding is aimed at enabling these institutions to immediately begin the implementation of modern farming practices.
Along with this approval, a directive was issued for these specialized universities to concentrate solely on their core missions and discontinue offering programs unrelated to their original mandate.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, made this announcement on Tuesday in Abuja during the opening of a retreat organized by the Ministry of Education for the pro-chancellors of federal universities. He underscored the significance of universities of agriculture owning and operating mechanized farming systems and disclosed that each university would receive N1 billion as an initial grant to kickstart the initiative.
