Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, has pledged that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who operates in Zamfara State, will soon be eliminated. Oluyede made the statement on Thursday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, during a briefing with journalists at the Headquarters of Operation Hadarin Daji. He emphasized that Turji, who is on the run, should continue fleeing, while assuring that the troops remain fully committed to ensuring the security of Zamfara State.
“Bello Turji is on the run as we speak, and wherever he goes, we follow him. Let him keep running — it is just a matter of time before he is removed from the space,” the army chief said.
Oluyede also highlighted the achievements of the Nigerian Army in the region, stating that troops have killed several bandit leaders in recent months.
The army chief noted that the military is working hard to improve security and protect lives and property.
“We are pursuing them, and we intend to continue. It is the same with the fight against bandits. In the last few months, we have killed prominent bandit leaders like Samaila, Boga, and Boderi. All of them are dead.
“We will keep pursuing them to ensure the entire North-West is safe,” Oluyede said.
The army chief acknowledged some challenges faced by troops in the theatre of operations.
However, he expressed confidence that they would overcome them.
He also called on Nigerians to cooperate with the army and other security agencies by providing timely information.
