Gunmen have suspected to be Jukum militia have brutally killed three fisherwomen in Tse Ijim, near Anyiin, Ukember Agya, Gaambetiev, in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to sources, the three Tiv women were returning from the market along the Anyiin-Wukari road, which lies within Benue State, when they were ambushed and killed by suspected Jukun militia.
An eyewitness, Teryila Abuur, narrated that the women were attacked and slaughtered by the gunmen while making their way home.
Logo Local Government Area, which shares a boundary with Wukari Local Government Area in Taraba State, has long been a hotspot for conflicts between the Tiv and Jukun communities, a clash that has lasted for over three decades.
The attack, which occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday, sparked widespread fear in the farming communities of Gaambe-tiev, as noted by community leader Chief Iorbee Fate. There are growing concerns that this incident could reignite tensions and lead to renewed violence between the Jukun and Tiv communities in the border regions of Wukari and Logo.
The bodies of the three women were taken to the Anyiin Health Centre. Meanwhile, the Police Area Command has stated they have yet to receive any official report about the incident.
