Naira-for-crude: IPMAN hopes for petrol price reduction

Oil marketers lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery have reduced the product’s price by 11.8%, bringing it down to ₦939.50 per litre from ₦1,060 per litre.

As of yesterday, Vanguard’s checks in Lagos and its environs confirmed that oil marketers were still selling petrol at ₦1,060 per litre. However, today’s checks revealed that major marketers, including MRS, have adjusted their pump prices.

While the chairman of MRS, Alhaji Sayyu Idris Dantata, declined to comment, a visit to the company’s filling station in Ojota, Lagos, confirmed that MRS has begun selling petrol at the new price of ₦939.50 per litre.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has also reduced its ex-pump price for petrol to ₦899.50 per litre, down from ₦970 per litre. The refinery stated that the price reduction is aimed at providing relief to Nigerians during the holiday season.

Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, announced: “To ease transport costs during this holiday season, Dangote Refinery is offering a special holiday discount on PMS. Effective immediately, our petrol will be available at ₦899.50 per litre at our truck loading gantry or SPM.”

‘‘Furthermore, for every litre purchased on a cash basis, consumers will have the opportunity to buy another litre on credit, backed by a bank guarantee from Access Bank, First Bank, or Zenith Bank.”
