Dignitaries extol Agate GM Igba Ogbole at Blue Ink Magazine launch

Dignitaries from the media, academia, literary and legal professions Friday, October 2, 20226, converged on the NUJ House in Makurdi, for the public presentation and launch of the maiden edition of Blue Ink Magazine, published in honour of a seasoned journalist, media executive and author, Igba Ogbole.

‎At the event, speaker after speaker, poured encomiums on the honouree, acknowledging his contributions to journalism, literature, mentorship and community development, describing him as an influential professional who has inspired generations of young people

‎Speaking at the event, Chairman of the occasion and Secretary-General of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Professor Patrick Ukase, lauded Ogbole’s contributions to journalism and his commitment to mentoring younger professionals.

‎Professor Ukase, a Scholar at the Federal University of Lokoja, also applauded the publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Blue Ink Magazine, Emmanuel Zaka for the vision behind the publication, particularly the decision to dedicate its maiden edition to Ogbole’s impact on society.

‎In her remarks, Chairlady of the occasion and Chairperson, Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA-Benue, Doctor Rhoda Aorabee, described Ogbole as a selfless and impactful mentor whose life and work continue to inspire many.

‎Also speaking, National President of ANA, Doctor Usman Akanbi, represented by the ANA National Legal Adviser, Barrister Joseph Gbagyo, said the honour was well deserved, describing Ogbole as a moral compass to young people and a voice of conscience in society.

‎Speaking in his personal capacity, Barrister Gbagyo, who is also Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Makurdi Branch, recalled Ogbole’s personal support and wise counsel, saying he had consistently made himself available to guide and encourage him.

‎In separate goodwill messages, Professor Chris Orngu of the Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, described Ogbole as a respected journalist who has made significant contributions to the wellbeing of society through his profession and commitment to moulding the younger generation, while the former Director-General of Radio Benue, Doctor Charles Iornumbe, also acknowledged Ogbole as a mentor, recalling their longstanding relationship and his support during his tenure as Chief Executive of Radio Benue.

‎Former National Secretary-General and National Ex-Officio of ANA, Mr Maik Ortserga, who reviewed the magazine, described it as a treasure trove of intellectually stimulating articles and recommended it to readers interested in knowledge and ideas.

‎In his remarks, the honouree and General Manager of Agate Radio, Television and Newspaper, Igba Ogbole, who expressed appreciation for the outpouring of goodwill, said he was particularly touched by the calibre of people who attended the event.

‎He recalled his longstanding relationship with the late veteran journalist Samuel Zaka, father of the Magazine’s publisher, saying he accepted the honour because of the Publisher’s resilience and commitment to upholding the professional values associated with his father.

‎Earlier, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Mr Emmanuel Zaka, had explained that Blue Ink Magazine, was established out of a belief that Benue, Nigeria and Africa are endowed with rich ideas, powerful voices and immense potential that deserve to be heard, documented and preserved.

‎He said the maiden edition, titled Truth Teller, Story Spinner, celebrates Igba Ogbole for his uncommon character and as a tribute to a life dedicated to the power of words, human dignity and the enduring impact of purposeful living.

‎Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, represented by Mr Donatus Orga-Afia, thanked the guests for attending and acknowledged Ogbole’s contributions to the journalism profession.
