…Says Government Has Failed to Provide Comprehensive Account of Revenue, Expenditure Since May 202
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Benue State Chapter, has challenged Governor Hyacinth Alia to clarify the state’s monthly revenue receipts following a disclosure by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that Benue receives as much as ₦30 billion monthly from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Bright Yima Antyo, questioned the state government’s silence on the disclosure, describing it as a matter that requires urgent public clarification.
The PDP asked whether Governor Alia disputes the figures attributed to Wike and, if so, why the government has not provided official figures to clarify the state’s actual monthly receipts. It also demanded that, if the disclosure is accurate, the governor explain how the resources have been utilised to improve the lives of the people.
The opposition party further alleged that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the Alia administration has failed to provide a comprehensive public account of revenue received, expenditure incurred, projects executed and results achieved.
According to the PDP, the people of Benue State deserve a transparent and detailed explanation of how public funds have been managed, particularly following the removal of the fuel subsidy and the resulting changes in allocations to state and local governments.
The party estimated that combined FAAC allocations to the Benue State Government and its 23 local government areas exceeded ₦1.3 trillion during the period under review, insisting that both tiers of government must account for the funds received.
“The questions are simple: How much has come in, how much has been spent, and what can the government show for it?” the statement asked.
The PDP also questioned the pace and delivery of infrastructure projects across the state, demanding explanations for the status of public hospitals, schools, agricultural support programmes, roads and other development initiatives in the 23 local government areas.
It specifically cited unfinished township road projects in Makurdi and the prolonged construction of the High Level underpass as examples of projects whose progress, timelines and expenditure, it argued, require greater public scrutiny.
The party maintained that accountability is even more urgent given the persistent insecurity in several parts of Benue State, where communities continue to experience attacks, fatalities, displacement and the destruction of livelihoods.
It called on the state government to disclose the resources allocated to security, the expenditure incurred and the measurable results achieved in protecting lives, securing communities and restoring peace.
The PDP consequently urged Governor Alia to publicly respond to Wike’s ₦30 billion monthly FAAC disclosure, publish the state’s revenue and expenditure records since May 29, 2023, and provide verifiable details of projects funded, amounts spent and their completion status.
It also demanded a detailed account of security expenditure and its impact, while calling on all 23 local government councils to publish their respective revenue and expenditure records.
“If Wike’s figures are inaccurate, Alia should say so and provide the facts. If they are accurate, he must explain what his administration has done with the money,” the statement added.
The PDP stressed that public funds are held in trust for the people and that citizens have a legitimate right to know how government revenues are generated, allocated and spent.
“Public revenue is not a private inheritance. Government money belongs to the people, and the people have a right to know how it is spent,” the party stated.
