Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 Benue South Senatorial District election and the Nigerian Senate Minority Leader, Senator Patrick Abba Moro on Saturday flagged off his third term campaign in the Zone.
The campaign rally, held at St. Andrew’s Primary School Field, attracted the PDP leadership in Benue State, party executives, political leaders and supporters from across the senatorial district.
Among those present were former Benue State Governor and the leader of PDP in Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom; members of the State Executive Committee; and other prominent party leaders.
A major highlight of the event was the reported endorsement of Senator Moro by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in the district, who declared their support for his candidacy ahead of the 2027 elections.
The rally also witnessed the defection of a prominent APC chieftain in Zone C, Barrister John Ochoga, to the PDP alongside his supporters.
Speaking at the event, the PDP governorship candidate in Benue State, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, commended the people of Zone C for their support for Senator Moro and congratulated the senator for what he described as selfless service to his constituents.
Aondoakaa, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, expressed concern over what he described as the neglect of Zone C under the current administration in the state.
He alleged that the zone had not received adequate attention despite what he described as substantial federal allocations accruing to the state over the past three years.
The PDP governorship candidate, who appeared at the rally with his running mate, Dr. Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa, promised that a PDP administration would prioritise the development needs of Zone C if elected in 2027.
Earlier, Senator Moro criticised the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, alleging that the government had failed to deliver meaningful development to the senatorial district.
Moro claimed that the state government receives more than ₦35 billion monthly but accused the administration of failing to translate the resources into adequate development in Zone C.
He argued that the alleged lack of development in the area was sufficient reason for voters to reject the administration’s bid for another term in office.
Also speaking, former Governor Samuel Ortom commended the people of Zone C for their continued support for the PDP and for endorsing Senator Moro and other candidates of the party.
Ortom expressed confidence that a PDP government led by Aondoakaa would address the challenges confronting the state and restore hope to the people if elected in 2027.
The campaign rally also featured the presentation of party flags to Senator Moro and the PDP’s candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats in the senatorial district.
The flags were presented by the Benue State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji.
Other dignitaries at the event included the PDP senatorial candidate for Benue North-West, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom, and the party’s candidate for Benue North-East Senatorial District, Hon. Thomas Tyolumun Unongo.
